Congratulations to Ginny Ford, outreach and events manager in the Global Education Office, on being  named one of two recipients of the 2025 McComas Staff Leadership Award. This prestigious, universitywide award recognizes staff who excel at encouraging participation, adapting their leadership style to different situations, and consistently leading by example. Recipients are nominated and selected for their ability to support university goals and inspire others through their leadership.

Ford was praised for her creativity, commitment, and service-minded approach to leadership. According to the nomination, she is known for developing new outreach opportunities, supporting students and colleagues during challenging times, and willingly working weekends and evenings to ensure events are successful.

“Whether it’s supporting students during difficult times, rolling up her sleeves and wheeling her wagon around campus to set up for events, or taking the time to recognize the contributions of her colleagues so that they feel valued, Ginny’s leadership is grounded in service to others and leading by example. She exhibits a level of commitment and teamwork that sets a high standard for those around her,” the nominator wrote.

This past year alone, Ford spearheaded the inaugural Hokie Culture Crawl for International Education Week, launched a series of information booths around campus to boost student engagement, and helped establish a new registered student organization.

“Her servant leadership, investment in building community, and genuine care for those around her make her an exceptional colleague, leader, and human being,” the nominator added.

Ford said she was honored by the recognition.

“I am deeply honored and truly humbled to receive this award — an acknowledgment that would not have been possible without the support of a thoughtful colleague who took the time to recognize and champion my efforts to inspire more Virginia Tech students to explore study abroad opportunities,” she said. “I’m proud to bring my passion for transformative global experiences to Hokies through the Virginia Tech Global Education Office, and to be part of a community that values curiosity, connection, and the power of international engagement.”
