In Switzerland, faculty master the art of leading study abroad with immersive workshop
At Virginia Tech's Steger Center for International Scholarship in Southern Switzerland, nine faculty from five departments spent a week living and learning like students in Virginia Tech's European hub for research and scholarship. The Global Teaching Scholars workshop, led by the Global Education Office and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, prepares the faculty to create high-impact international experiences for their students. From learning the logistics of creating a study abroad with hands-on staff support to making connections with local universities for potential partnerships, the workshop laid the groundwork for future courses that are based on strong place-based learning pedagogy.
