Students in the Salute: Food and Health in Switzerland program at the Steger Center for International Scholarship got hands-on experience in the local community of Riva San Vitale.

Combining their studies in food production, health, and nutrition with community engagement, the students co-designed, cooked, and shared a meal with seniors at Pro Senectute Ticino e Moesano, a regional organization that promotes well-being and social connection for older adults.

After learning about the seniors’ culinary habits and preferences, the students planned a menu, then spent two days cooking, eating, and practicing Italian together. The result wasn’t just risotto and meatballs — it was connection, laughter, and new insight into Italian culture.

Their collaboration even caught the attention of Swiss television. Watch the segment on RSI.
